If you are searching for information about a Pocatello senior portrait session, you probably have questions. What does the process actually look like? How far in advance should you book? What happens on session day? And what do you walk away with at the end?
This post answers all of it. Whether you are a senior trying to figure out if this is worth it or a parent trying to decide whether to invest, I want you to leave this page knowing exactly what working with Kate Hulsey Photography looks like from the very first message to the moment you hold your final products.
The first step in your Pocatello senior portrait session is simply reaching out. You can find my full collections and pricing at my website and DM me on Instagram. If you want to reach me, feel free to submit a contact form on my website.
I respond to every inquiry personally. I read every message and reply as myself — because the relationship starts here, not on session day.
When you reach out, I will ask you a few questions about your senior, your timeline, and what matters most to you about this experience. This helps me understand whether we are a good fit before we talk about anything else.
Once we have connected, I will walk you through my collections so you can find the right fit. My senior portrait collections start at $850 for the Lunch Hour and that includes only digital files and go up to $2,900 for The Last Bell, which includes it all!
Every collection, aside from Lunch Hour, includes physical products — albums, wall art, or prints depending on what you choose — along with digitals in an online gallery. I want your images to actually exist in your home, as well as be able to share them online and with family and friends!
A $200 nonrefundable retainer secures your session date. The remaining balance is due seven days before your session and can be paid in full or spread out between now and then — whatever works best for your family.
After you book your Pocatello senior portrait session, I send you a detailed planning questionnaire. This is one of my favorite parts of the process.
I ask about your style, your interests, the things that matter most to you during this season of life, your favorite locations, and what you want to feel when you look back at these images years from now. I read every single answer.
The questionnaire is how I make sure your session feels like you and not like a generic backdrop shoot. After I have a good idea about who you are and what makes you special, we will have several conversations to make sure we have every detail planned. By the time session day arrives, we have already thought carefully about what is going to work for your specific personality, your look, and the story we are telling together.

A few weeks before your session we connect to finalize your locations, your outfits, and the overall game plan.
I will share location ideas based on what you told me in your questionnaire and what I know about the light in Pocatello at different times of year. I scout locations in advance, unless unable to due to private locations, so there are no surprises on session day. Together we decide on an order of locations and outfits that makes logistical sense and keeps the energy moving.
If you are combining a senior portrait session with a Sportrait setup — which many of my senior athletes do — we plan that into the timeline as well.
A few days before your session I send a personalized message. Not a logistics reminder. Something genuine.
I go back through your questionnaire and write to you specifically about what I am most excited to create together. Because by that point I have been thinking about your session for weeks and I genuinely am excited.
On the morning of your session I send a short hype text. Something warm and real that reminds you this is going to be a good day.
These touchpoints exist because I want you to arrive relaxed, not anxious. The more comfortable you feel before we start, the better your images are going to be.
Session day for your Pocatello senior portrait session is the part most seniors are nervous about — and also the part that almost always surprises them.
I guide every single moment. You will never stand somewhere wondering what to do with your hands or how to angle your body. I direct everything specifically and conversationally — not in a stiff formal way, but in the calm steady way a person walks someone through something new.
My dog Presley also comes to almost every session. He is a six-pound Yorkie who travels in his hiking backpack and has a gift for breaking the ice. Everyone love him. His official title is “Senior Pawject Manager” and he takes his job very seriously.
I start every session with the easiest most flattering shots so you have time to warm up before we get creative. As a result, the energy usually shifts completely within the first fifteen minutes. The stiffness goes away. You stop thinking about what to do and start just being somewhere beautiful with someone who is watching for the moment everything clicks.
That moment is the whole point.

Gallery delivery. Within two weeks of your session your full gallery is delivered to a private online proofing gallery. You will receive an email with your link and instructions for viewing and ordering. I always send proofs of items you are ordering to make sure everything is exactly how you want it before I hit “order”.
In-person product delivery. When your products are ready I deliver them to you in person. I want to be there the first time you hold your album or see your wall art. It is truly so special to watch you hold your images for the first time.
How far in advance should I book my Pocatello senior portrait session?
The earlier the better — especially for summer golden hour slots, which fill quickly. I take a limited number of seniors each month from June through November. If you are a junior planning ahead, spring is a great time to lock in your summer date. Feel free to check out this post for more information on when to schedule your session: The Seasons Post
What should my senior wear?
I send every client a detailed style guide after booking. In general I recommend bringing two to three outfits that feel like different versions of who you are — you don’t have to purchase brand new clothes you have never worn. Pieces that feel comfortable and authentic in are perfect too! Avoid very busy patterns and neon colors that photograph harshly. Also, avoid logos, or brand names unless it is special to you. When in doubt bring options and we decide together.
Can my senior include something personal — a sport, vehicle, family heirloom, pet, a special location?
Absolutely, and I strongly encourage it!! The best sessions I have photographed are built around the things that actually matter to the senior. A sport they have given everything to. A pet that goes everywhere with them. A location that means something specific like a farm, auditorium, mechanic shop, or even art studio, etc. When a session reflects who someone actually is, the images feel completely different from a generic shoot. We talk through all of this during our planning conversation.
What if my senior hates being photographed?
That describes most of the seniors I work with before their session. Hating photos usually means nobody has ever actually guided you through being in them. Because I spent nine years as a teacher and basketball coach, guiding people through things they are not sure they can do is genuinely what I know how to do. By the end of almost every session, the senior who walked in nervous is the one asking to see the back of the camera.
Do you travel outside Pocatello for sessions?
Yes. I photograph sessions throughout the Pocatello area and surrounding Idaho locations. If you have a location in mind that means something to your senior — even if it requires a drive — reach out and let’s talk about it. I love to travel to new places! If you want to plan a destination session – Let’s Chat!
What is included in every collection?
Every collection includes a pre-session planning questionnaire, a fully guided and personalized session, professional editing and retouching, a private online proofing gallery, physical products specific to your collection (except Lunch Hour), digitals for every product purchased, and in-person product delivery. You can view the full breakdown of each collection by clicking here.

If you have been on the fence, I hope this gives you a clear picture of what the experience actually looks like. It is not just a photoshoot. It is a process built around your specific senior, your specific family, and the season of life you are in right now.
I take a limited number of seniors each month because I dedicate my time and focus into making sure you senior or athlete experience is so special. When you are ready to book your Pocatello senior portrait session, reach out and let’s talk about what your experience should look like.
Because Everyone Matters.
